The police in Enugu State have arrested a man who allegedly specialised in raping old women in Opi, Nsukka Local Government Area. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, announced
in a statement in Enugu on Wednesday that the suspect was arrested on
May 5 and that full investigation into the matter had commenced.
Amaraizu said the suspect was arrested in collaboration with some good spirited members of the Opi community.
He said luck ran out on the suspect when he went to rape a woman who raised alarm which drew the attention of some of the people around.
"The suspect revealed that he specialised in raping old women in the town, which he normally carried out in the night," he said.
Amaraizu said the victim also revealed how he used a kitchen knife to subdue his victims to commit the act.
"The victim also confessed that at times he used to visit some of the identified victims' homes forcefully at night, and that he is now regretting every bit of his actions," he said.
Amaraizu also said the suspect claimed that he had raped many old women in the community, not for ritual purposes but to satisfy his sexual urge, since young women could not succumb to his wishes.
"The suspect claimed that he left any woman who resisted him, especially when the woman raised alarm," he said.
